OUR STORY

Alcohol Health Network was founded as a social enterprise in 2012 by Director Don Shenker with the express aim of bringing his 20 years of alcohol harm reduction expertise into the workplace health and wellbeing sector.

Don recognised that by taking evidence based behaviour techniques from the health sector into the workplace, both employees and employers could benefit - a win-win. In particular, Don was interested in the growing digital opportunities to help people understand more about their drinking via workplace health initatives. In collaboration with colleagues at University College London's E-Health Unit, Don developed what is now Drink Checker, an online alcohol awareness platform that can be adapted for any workplace or public health setting.

As Alcohol Health Network began to provide specialist support to a number of clients, we further developed our approach in line wtih employers' requests for specialist training for managers and engaging health events for employees.

The Alcohol Health Network has made a tremendous difference to the work we are doing to raise awareness and promote sensible drinking. Their expertise, together with their professionalism has made a world of difference, giving the work real momentum.

Our social enterprise purpose

Alcohol Health Network was set up as a social enterprise (Community Interest Company), bringing together academics and expert practitioners in the fields of alcohol harm reduction, workforce and digital health to share expertise and understand how to promote alcohol awareness more widely via workplace health.

We are committed to evidence-based practice and collaborating with research institutions to continually evolve our approach.
